Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Brand Photographer (Tears, Tea, and Purpose)

People often see the polished Instagram posts, the glowing client galleries, and the confident women in front of my lens… but rarely do they see what goes on behind the scenes.

So today, I’m pulling back the curtain — not just on what it means to be a brand photographer in Nashville, but what it looks like to be a human building a business, raising kids, and rebuilding life after heartbreak.

Because behind every perfectly lit photo… there’s a story.

Morning: School Drop-Offs & Sonic Runs

Like many of you, my day starts early. I’m a mom first — and that means school drop-offs, lost shoes, packing snacks, and making sure my kids know they are deeply loved before heading out into the world.

After that? A large drink from Sonic. (IYKYK.)

Mid-Morning: Emails, Editing & Tea (Round 2)

Once I’m back at my desk — either in my cozy Franklin home or at a local coffee shop — it’s time to dig into the behind-the-scenes magic of my business. I respond to client emails, finalize shot lists, and start editing galleries with music in the background and coffee close by.

This part is less glamorous… but it’s where the heart of your brand image gets polished and made ready to shine.

Midday: Photoshoots, Posing Support & Pump-Up Sessions

This is the fun part: photoshoot time! Whether I’m working in my full-house studio, a beautiful Airbnb, or a location that speaks to your brand, I spend every session making sure you feel confident, celebrated, and seen.

I don’t just pose you — I hype you up, fix flyaways, and remind you that you are exactly who you need to be. Because showing up for your brand requires bravery, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Afternoon: Post-Shoot Glow & Real-Life Feels

After a shoot, I usually ride the high of seeing women come alive in front of my camera. There’s nothing more fulfilling than watching someone go from nervous to glowing.

But there are also days when I walk back into a quiet house, sit on my bed, and cry.

Because as I rebuild after my divorce — navigating new boundaries, rediscovering my voice, and holding space for my kids — there are still hard moments. Still, healing is happening.

And yet, even in the tears… I’m grateful. Grateful that I get to do work that aligns with my purpose. That I get to help you show up boldly, even as I’m learning how to do the same.

Evening: Dinner, Dance Parties, and Dreaming Big

The evenings are for my family — dinner, decompressing, and spontaneous dance parties in the kitchen. Then, once the house is quiet, I often find myself dreaming and planning for the next shoot, the next blog post, the next evolution of my business and life.

Because I believe the best stories — the ones worth capturing—are the ones that hold all of it. The joy and the mess. The beauty and the rebuilding. The laughter and the letting go.
